2012

Never before has a date in history been so significant to so many cultures, so many religions, scientists, and governments. "2012" is an epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.

Trivia

  • The title refers to the end-date of the Mayan calendar, a Meso-American civilization whose dating system comes to an end in the year AD 2012. Though the calendar itself contains no such information, popular culture and certain religions prophesy an apocalyptic event at this date.

  • The teaser trailer uses the exact same ambient music score from the trailer to The Shining (1980).

Changeling through my own eyes

I recently went to the cinema filled by curiosity about the movie that Angelina Jolie is the main protagonist; Changeling. And the result? Well, i was really satissfied and i rate it with a maximum of 9 out of 10.

I found the movie worth watching with very strong interpretations from all the actors. But first of all lets take it from the beginning. The movie is based on a true story that took place in Los Angeles around 1928 when on a Saturday morning in a working-class suburb, Christine (Angelina Jolie) said goodbye to her son, Walter, and left for work. When she came home, she discovered he had vanished.

So, after her son dissappeared, she called the police and did whatever possible to find him, but nothing happened until months later, where a boy claiming to be the nine-year-old Walter is returned. Dazed by the swirl of cops, reporters and her conflicted emotions, Christine allows him to stay overnight. But in her heart, she knows he is not Walter.

In fact, before Walter was lost, she had measured his height and the boy she had with her now was shorter than her real son. She even went to the dentist who assured her that this boy was a different one than her own and the same thing was told by his son's teacher who assured her that this boy was not Walter but a different one.

So, Christine, went again to the police to tell them that they had been wrong and this boy wasn't hers. But the police now did not want to admit their fault. As she pushes authorities to keep looking, she learns that in Prohibition-era L.A., women don't challenge the system and live to tell their story. Slandered as delusional and unfit, Christine finds an ally in activist Reverend Briegleb (Malkovich), who helps her fight the city to look for her missing boy.

However, when Christine, went to the media to tell that the police has brought back the wrong boy, the police in charge, put her in a hospital for mentally crazy people, trying to make her seem like a crazy mother who has delussions and cannot take care of her own child. Christine, is now closed in there and nobody can help her ...
In the meanwhile, another police investigator who looks for lost boys around the country, caught a boy in the dessert who could not stay any more at the country. But after a while, the boy tells him that he is a murderer and he will go to hell because he killed some boys with his cousin. The policeman then discovers that among those killed boys might be the nine year old Walter ...

After a week in the hospital, Christine manages to get out with the help of Reverend Briegleb (Malkovich). But then she learns that her son might have been murdered ...

It is then that the people in California started protesting against the California's legal system which was really corrupted. Lots of people went to strikes at the streets and everybody learned about Christine's story ...
Then Christine, with the help of the best lawyer in the city decided to sue the police ... and so the story goes. You really have to watch the movie. Even though it is a dramatic movie it is worthwile to watch from the beginning until the end :)

The Day The Earth Stood Still

A remake of the 1951 classic sci-fi film about an alien visitor and his giant robot counterpart who visit Earth.

The 2008 remake about an alien and his indestructible robot will star Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, Jennifer Connelly as Helen Benson, Jaden Smith as Jacob, and Kathy Bates. Gort has not been cast at this time and will most likely be created using SFX.

The remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still will supposedly remain true to the original movie. However, there is a chance the remake will more likely remain true to the short story upon which the 1951 movie is based. In either case, the alien weaponry seems to have been upgraded. In addition to a city going dark, and a very brief look at the new Gort, the film trailer shows a cloud of black smoke, capable of rapid movement and disintegrating matter on contact.

Some trivia:

Through this movie Nanette Burstein manages to move us and show that although technology and fashion may change throughout the years, the reflections of 17 year old teenagers remain the same.

  • The movie was the big surprise of the Sundance festival where it won the direction award.
  • Shots of the movie lasted 10 months , and the students where left free to improvize.
  • Burstein was looking for a town and school from all social and economical levels. Eventually, the town was Indiana and the school the Warshow.
  • The hardest part of the movie was the montage. The 1000 hours should be transformed to 100 minutes.
  • The soundtrack of the movie involves pieces of music from bands such as : MGMT, The Ting Tings, the Black Kids, Frou Frou, Blackalicious, Does It Offend You, Yeah?.

Ελληνοφρένεια - Μεμονωμένο επεισόδιο - Αστυνομία (09/12/2008)

Aleksandros Grigoropoulos (6 December 2008)

We all saw what happened at that day. A child was lost, a human being ... He could have been our friend, our brother, our neighbour ... Although my blog is for movies, i just couldn't be apathetic and don't judge this incident ... Unfortunately, life is not fair enough to some people and even more to people that truly don't deserve such things. I wish the "policeman" will be judged accordingly to his actions and i give my sincere condolences to the family of the unfairly lost child ...

Watch the video ... It talks about the situation: a bottle, an evil weapon and some politicians ... Christmas is just three weeks far away and the spirit is already gone and children will not be the same after all these riots.
